Conference goals

Granitioids are subject of various and intensive studies for at least three centuries. Tens of hypotheses that described the forming conditions of these comparatively simple rocks in mineralogical view were put forward, recognized and rejected in the end during that period. Despite evident progress in understanding the physical, chemical and geotectonic conditions of formation of various type granitoids, their ore genetic value, these directions remain one of the most dynamically developing trends in modern geology. Numerous publications both in Russian and foreign periodicals testify to it, including special issues of some leading petrological journals, such as Lithos, fundamental monographs and recent paper collections, big regular international conferences and symposia like Hutton Symposium. Unfortunately, the achievements of Russian scientists in this direction are hardly known abroad because of various reasons and first of all, financial ones. Granite topics are practically present at all Russian conferences related to problems of magmatic petrology, metallogeny and geodynamics in any case, however specialized "granite " conferences were not held for many years. At the same time, the necessity of such conferences that cover a wide spectrum of problems, i.e. from experimental direction to geophysical and ore genetic aspects of granitiod magmatism with maximum attraction of foreign scientists became urgent long ago.

The idea of Granite Conference organization in Transbaikalia appeared not accidentally. When looking at geological map of Transbaikalia, the known expression ":sea of granites" is involuntarily remembered, as more than 80 % of area in the region are occupied by granites, being various in composition and age. Among them, the Late Paleozoic granitoids of the Angara-Vitim batholith, one of the largest in the world undoubtedly predominate. A whole number of large and unique rare metal deposits are associated with the Mesozoic granitoids in Transbaikalia. It can be said without any exaggeration that Transbaikalia is natural laboratory, where any problems of petrology of granitoids, their geodynamic position and ore content are really solved.

The main goal of the Conference is to unite the leading scientists in fields of petrology, geodynamics and ore content of granitoids. The main topics that are suggested to be discussed at the Conference are given below.

We hope that your participation in the Conference will be interesting and productive.
