Using discards, scientists discover different dinosaurs' stomping grounds  [2010-10-14]
By examining the type of rock in which dinosaur fossils were embedded, scientists have determined that different species of North American dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous period 65 million years ago occupied different environments separated by just a few miles.  подробнее...

Most Dinosaurs More Like Barney Than T. Rex  [2010-10-06]
Dinosaurs might not have been the mighty conquerors that everyone thinks they were. Instead of overwhelming the world with force, dinosaurs might have instead moved in when no one was looking.

Observatory: 85 Million Years Added to Oldest Animal Fossils  [2010-08-24]
Spongelike creatures may have existed 635 million years ago or earlier, during the Cryogenian period, according to research published in the journal Nature Geoscience.

Fossils point to animal life 100m years earlier than thought  [2010-08-17]
Scientists have found what might be the oldest physical evidence of the existence of animals on Earth. The fossils of primitive, sponge-like creatures that once lived in ocean reefs off south Australia push back the time at which scientists think the first animal life evolved on Earth by almost 100m years. The fossilised remains of the 1cm-long sponges in rocks dated at 640-650m years old were found by Adam Maloof, a geologist at Princeton University. If correct, his finding, published todayin Nature Geoscience, would mean that animal life probably existed before the Marinoan glaciation, an era when the entire planet was covered in ice. Sponges are simple filter-feeders that extract their food from water as it flows through specialised body channels.  подробнее...

Possible discovery of earliest animal life pushes back fossil record  [2010-08-17]
In findings that push back the clock on the scientific world's thinking about when animal life appeared on Earth, Princeton scientists may have discovered the oldest fossils of animal bodies, suggesting that primitive sponge-like creatures were living in ocean reefs about 650 million years ago.  подробнее...
